Engineering applications are characterized by close interaction between the disciplines of mechanical, electrical engineering and software engineering. A systematic approach is indispensable for the development of mechatronic and cyber-physical systems
(CPS). For this purpose, the standard VDI 2206 was published in 2004. Due to the increasing networking with the Internet of Things and Services as well as the high interdisciplinarity, complexity, and heterogeneity of the systems, a revision of this standard has become necessary.
The revision and extension of the methodology to include cyber-physical aspects originated in the VDI/VDE Technical Committee 4.10 âInterdisciplinary Product Developmentâ of the VDI/VDE Society Measurement and Automatic Control (GMA). The new standard includes a fundamental revision of the V-model (see Section 6) as well as the use of new tools for interdisciplinary product development. The standard thus sharpens the understanding for extensions of mechatronic Systems by cyber-physical functions.
