Metal additive manufacturing processes are advancing, preparing the automobile sector for a radical shift and another industrial revolution. Many academics are working on concepts, equipment, and procedures for producing massive metal components in order to fulfill the need for rapid and personalized car production. Automobile manufacturers are presented with new issues in terms of growing design patterns, revised safety standards, and extra functional features, which need the development of new tools and techniques to promote and maximize the design transition in shorter periods of time. Given the fast development of the additive manufacturing sector, a critical assessment of the metal additive manufacturing sector for the car industry is both timely and necessary in order to direct future research in this field. This paper addresses this need and presents a brief review of automotive components associated with metal additive manufacturing and challenges for mass adoption for the technology.
