Improvement of the parking design of a university in Brazil.

Abstract

In face with the growing demand for parking spaces, it is of great importance to search for alternatives to the space offered, such as in public institutions. Without proper scaling, several idle areas become underutilized without proper use, such as the Technology Center - CT of the Federal University of Paraíba - UFPB. In this work, proposals were made for various configurations of parking spaces. In order to understand the real situation of the place of study and to present proposals for redesigns, the number of regular and irregular parking spaces was raised and a study was carried out on demand for vacancies on peak days for cars and motorcycles. Based on several manuals of parking projects, dimensions compatible with the manual of the Secretariat of Urban Mobility of João Pessoa - SEMOB were observed. As a result, two layout proposals were presented. Among the proposals that met the demands, one has vacancies in its majority in 90 degrees offering the largest number of possible vacancies and another one with the most vacancies arranged 45 degrees obtaining the necessary amount, in which in the latter it is advantageous because it has more comfort for parking. With the research, it was found that improvements are possible and easy to implement in the short term, making the space more organized and optimized, without the need to use new areas.
