A report on Intrusion Detection Systems:Categories, Attack Detection and Response

Abstract

Abstract— Cybercriminals' increasing expertise makes it very difficult to detect intrusions with any degree of precision. Any organisation that does not successfully prevent invasions may face significant repercussions. This study provides an overview of a wide variety of intrusion detection approaches, some of which are Signature-based IDS and Anomaly-based IDS. The report reviews IDS’ history, the dangers of intrusions, various detection methods, the challenges associated with managing IDSs, tools and intrusion prevention systems, performance evaluation and intrusion prevention systems.
