Abstract

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are fundamental to the evolving transportation landscape. VANETs are promoting both safety and
efficiency. Ensuring the security and performance of VANETs is crucial, as they become deeply intertwined with daily travel. The researcher deeply explored the current certificate management schemes within VANETs. This research highlighted the key challenges and shortcomings associated with the current certificate management schemes from the literature. To keep a balance between robust security and optimal performance, the researcher proposed a lightweight approach that combines a dynamic Certificate Authority (CA) framework with RSA encryption. The proposed scheme was rigorously tested under three specific modes using the NS-2 simulator. The researcher leveraged metrics such as latency, jitter, and Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) as performance benchmarks. The results indicate that the method delivers competitive performance on par with less secure settings, even with its advanced security features. This research sets the foundation for a more secure and efficient VANET paradigm and directed us towards a safer vehicular communication future.
