Abstract

The sustainability of aviation is necessary to reduce carbon emissions and the effects of climate change. This study examines the aerodynamic performance of Truss-Braced Wings (TBWs) and their potential applications in improving the L/D of incompressible and transonic aircraft. It is determined that adding a truss increases the pressure coefficient near the leading edge, which is reduced by increasing the aspect ratio. Moreover, optimal performance is achieved with truss location towards the quarter and mid-ST region at the transonic flight regime. The combination of truss location and aspect ratio optimizes performance in incompressible and transonic regimes. This study highlights the importance of balancing the aspect ratio and truss location to achieve the desired pressure coefficient values. These findings have implications for guiding aircraft design in both regimes, with potential benefits for electric aircraft and transonic regional aircraft performance.
