Solar power is one of the fastest-growing energy sources worldwide. As of 30 April 2020, India’s installed solar capacity stood at 34,811.78 MW. This study assesses the load of the Mechanical Engineering department office at an engineering college in Bikaner and based on that demand, designs a stand-alone PV system. Using PVsyst, we analyze system performance and losses. The office’s average annual energy requirement is 1,086.24 kWh; the PV array generates 1,143.6 kWh, while the energy delivered to the load is 1,068.12 kWh, slightly below the requirement due to cumulative system losses. Performance-ratio results show a peak PR of 86% in December, a low of 64% in April, and an annual average PR of 72.8%. The shortfall and seasonal variation are attributable to the aggregate losses captured by the simulation model.
