This case study compares MQTT deployment approaches in industrial edge environments lightweight standalone brokers, protocol handlers, and proxy-based network bridges using empirical data from multiple oil and gas sites. We evaluate resilience, interoperability, latency, resource utilization, and consistency, and find that network bridges often yield lower resource variability and higher availability, especially under constrained edge conditions when combined with modern streaming platform catered to ML workoalds and analytics
