Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid system designed to enhance orbital debris mitigation by combining ground-based laser nudging, autonomous AI-driven trajectory assessment, and a deployable net-capture satellite unit. The proposed LENS framework increases safety, expands debris-handling capability across multiple object sizes, and improves long-term sustainability of low Earth orbit operations. By integrating three previously separate approaches—lasers, nets, and AI—this system provides a more efficient, adaptive, and scalable solution to the growing challenge of space debris.
