Internet 2.0: An Intent-Aware, AI-Native Extension of the Web

Abstract

The paper proposes Internet 2.0, an architectural extension of the current internet that integrates AI models directly into its foundation, transitioning from a document-based internet to an intelligence-aware network. The core argument is that the traditional web was built for retrieving and navigating documents, while modern users increasingly seek synthesized answers and tools from AI, which currently remain isolated in proprietary APIs and detached from core internet protocols.
