In universities, fire accidents pose a severe threat to the lives and properties of teachers and students, because fire evacuation is difficult due to the dense population, numerous experimental instruments, and various flammables and explosives on campus. This paper explores deep into the fire safety of university buildings, and analyses the types and hazard sources of fire on campus. The objective of this research report is to discuss the primary issues concerning university buildings and to provide a modified layout for the fire safety design of university buildings that comprehensively integrates all aspects of fire safety. The paper classifies the factors that make university facilities a high-risk type of buildings to fire; reviews causes of fires in universities and identifies potential high-risk areas to fires in university facilities; provides modified layout and reviews design and operation factors controlling fire severity. Due to the absence of fire facilities in the present architecture, this article proposes a significantly improved fire plan that increases fire safety in all dimensions. Finally, the research is summarized, and the corresponding opinions and suggestions are given for the university fire safety management.
