A Research on Performance of Filter Bank Multi-Carrier (FBMC) Systems

Need for multicarrier modulation has got great attention from the researchers and engineers across the past few years due to growth in wireless internet devices as they offer higher data rates. Furthermore, they also provide high spectral efficiency and resistance to fading in wireless communication. OFDM has been the most dominant technology in broadband multicarrier communication [1], [2]. OFDM has many advantages but it also has certain drawbacks like high amplitude fluctuations and use of rectangular window which causes OOB [1], [3]. Due to use of CP in OFDM system the spectral efficiency decreases thus OQAM/FBMC can be used as an alternative to achieve spectral efficiency by providing well-organized waveforms both in frequency and time domain [3]. Despite the fact, OQAM/FBMC offers the same PAPR as OFDM but it can be fairly reduced by using reduction techniques or modifying the prototype filters used, therefore OQAM/FBMC is a potential technique to overcome the problem of PAPR [4].
This research focuses on finding a possible pathway to reduce PAPR in the OQAM/FBMC system via implementing D-CSLM. This research also aims to experiment with different prototype filters length to reach the expected outcome.
